Options For Rapid Plans In Fitness Equipment | ArticlePDQ.com

The world of fitness is so large that it?s easy to become confused and lost about what is right for you. All the possibilities available can overwhelm anyone, so it?s important to get as much information as possible about what is out there. Here are some dynamic suggestions for working on your fitness.

If you start a program, finish it. Nobody likes leaving things half finished; that?s the sign of a quitter and someone who isn?t ready to commit. In fact, if you end up starting a program and not finishing it?s almost as if you should never have begun at all. When you work out, you build up muscle strength because your body adapts to a more stressful environment. When you quit working out your body re-adapts to the sedentary lifestyle, it led before.

A great tip to help you get fit, is to invest in some body fat calipers. Scales only tell you how much you weigh and it?s common knowledge that muscle ways more than fat. Body fat calipers will tell you what percentage of your body consists of fat.

At the end of your exhaustive workout session, rather than reaching for a sports drink or water, try chocolate milk. Chocolate milk has been shown to hydrate as well as water but speeds the recovery time of athletes in training. You will be able to return to another workout session faster than if you had chosen a different beverage.

It?s always better to start with small steps to your ultimate fitness goal. Simple things like taking advantage of all opportunities to walk. Always walk to the blue box when you need to mail a letter. There will likely be one close enough to you that you can make the trek easily.

One of the key factors in maintaining a physically fit body is by drinking water. Studies show that people that drink cold water tend to lose more weight than people who do not drink the right amount of water. Staying hydrated also helps you beat the afternoon energy slump as well. Nip over to Look At These Guys for intelligent news.

Exercise can be the eight-letter word that some people just hate. To some, it means hurting muscles, sweating and extreme will power. If exercising means this to you, then avoid it like the plague. Instead, just physically move more than you do already. If that means dancing while you are stirring a pot of beans, then do that. Movement burns calories, so anything more than what you currently do is better for you.

Being physically fit and healthy is crucial to your quality of life, so it?s extremely important that you go about it the right way. Having a solid foundation of understanding of fitness is key to any exercise routine. Apply the knowledge you?ve learned from this article, and you?ll be on the road to better health.

US campaigns duel over storm-ravaged New Orleans

White House challenger Mitt Romney has toured storm-ravaged New Orleans in a bid to burnish his presidential credentials ahead of his November battle with Barack Obama.

Coming off the back of a rousing Republican party convention, Romney sought Friday to build momentum by taking his new campaign plane to New Orleans, where rescue crews are clearing up after Hurricane Isaac unleashed a torrential downpour.

Obama's camp swiftly declared that the Democratic incumbent would tour the city himself on Monday, but denied they were playing catch up, insisting they did not want the president's large security detail to disrupt disaster relief.

Romney met Louisiana's Republican governor Bobby Jindal and toured disaster relief operations in still partly flooded streets with National Guard troops.

Romney told Jindal he came to Louisiana "to learn and obviously to draw some attention to what's going here", in order to let "people around the country know that people down here need help."

Seven years ago, New Orleans became a symbol of presidential failure when Obama's Republican predecessor George W. Bush was seen as bungling the federal response to Hurricane Katrina, which left 1,800 dead along the Gulf Coast.

Isaac was much less devastating, and flood defenses erected around New Orleans since 2005 protected the city, but both candidates were determined to show off their crisis leadership skills.

"The decision to travel on Monday was made before Governor Romney announced his decision to travel to Louisiana on Friday," an Obama aide said in a call to reporters from Air Force One.

Obama had already made federal emergency funding available.

Romney strategist Stuart Stevens insisted the campaign had not rushed to beat Obama to the scene, and denied it was inappropriate for a candidate to attend the scene before the commander-in-chief's trip on Monday.

"So one's supposed to wait that long?" he asked. "Seems a little wacky."

Louisiana resident Doug Boulware, 54, concisely articulated how many locals thought about Obama and Romney using the storm-hit area as a political football.

"Neither one of these guys can do what New Orleans needs to have done right now, which is manual labor and getting up in bucket trucks and fixing those wires," said Boulware, who owns and manages nursing homes in the state.

Obama convened a conference call with several parish presidents and other local leaders from Louisiana and Mississippi and pledged further assistance to contend with flooding and storm damage, adding that he was releasing aid for individuals impacted by the hurricane.

The White House did not attack Romney's trip, but top Senate Democrat Harry Reid denounced Romney's tour as the "height of hypocrisy", alleging that Republican policies would gut disaster funding.

Romney flew to Louisiana in his new campaign plane, unveiled on the first day that the candidate is able to begin spending campaign funds he raised for the general election.

Romney's schedule change came immediately after Thursday's triumphal conclusion of the Republican convention, where he set the seal on his official candidacy with a promise to create millions of new jobs.

The former Massachusetts governor told Americans that Obama had singularly failed to deliver the "hope and change" he promised and that the country must act to save an economy crippled by wrong-headed policies.

Obama's camp was dismissive, insisting the convention would not change the dynamics of the race, which has seen the incumbent maintain narrow leads over the challenger in most of the swing states he needs for victory.

The Democrats hold their own convention to formally re-nominate Obama beginning Tuesday in Charlotte, North Carolina, and will hope for a bump in support to match whatever new momentum the Republicans won in Tampa.

Senior Obama advisor David Axelrod promised the president would provide the specifics that Romney's address on Thursday -- which he said was packed with personal anecdotes and patriotic platitudes -- lacked.

"I think that what people were tuning in hoping to hear were practical solutions to the challenges that we face," Axelrod told MSNBC television.

Meanwhile Republican vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan spoke at a rally at the airport in Richmond, Virginia, saying voters in November faced an historic choice and needed politicians like Romney.

"We are at the proverbial fork in the road. We've got a choice of two futures," Ryan said.

"And what you need in a moment like this, when our economy is in doubt, when a debt crisis looms on our horizon like it's plaguing Europe, when we know, without a shadow of a doubt, that our children are going to get a diminished future if we stay on the current path? You need principled leaders."

Martinez puts the Philippines on the map for figure skating | Golden ...

September 2, 2012 - by Tatjana Flade

Michael Christian Martinez

Michael Christian Martinez of the Philippines missed the podium Friday by a mere 0.37 points while competing at the Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating in Lake Placid, New York.

Although the Philippines is not a natural skating country, they have a naturally talented figure skater that began turning heads last season: Michael Christian Martinez.

The 15-year-old from Muntinlupa, a city of 400,000 inhabitants south of the capital Manila, confirmed just this week that he is an emerging young skater by finishing fourth at the ISU Junior Grand Prix (JGP) in Lake Placid, USA. The teen missed the podium by a mere 0.37 points.

Martinez hit his first ever triple Axel in competition in the short program at Lake Placid, but was so focused on this jump that he went on to double the solo flip and the Lutz in combination. He ranked seventh.

The short program to Toccata and Fugue, however, was not the program he originally had planned.

?In August, I joined two local US Figure Skating?competitions which were endorsed by our Philippine Federation just to have a warm up competition prior to the Lake Placid JGP,? Martinez explained. ?I used these competitions to test my two new programs and test my triple Axel. I did not have good PCS (program component scores) in my short program in these two competitions, and a judge told me that the music and program does not fit me, so I decided to change it.?

With Andy Chang, he quickly mounted a new program just a week before Lake Placid.

?I was so nervous during my short program, because it was just a week old and has not been polished yet,? Martinez admitted. ?It was a rushed choice and I didn?t have much time to choose good music and just decided to use my novice music so at least I would be familiar with it.?

?We will change the program after the JGP (in Lake Placid) as we still have two weeks before my next competition in mid- September,? Martinez he added.

In his free skate to King Arthur, the Filipino pulled off the triple Axel again as well as four triples and three level-four spins to move up three spots. The mistakes in the short cost him the medal in the end, which would have been a historical first for the Philippines. However, Martinez will get another chance when he competes in his second JGP in Zagreb.

Before the event in Croatia, however, Martinez will debut at the international senior level at Nebelhorn Trophy in Oberstdorf, Germany, at the end of September.

The skater is currently training in California, mostly with Ilia Kulik, but also with John Nicks and Peter Kongkasem. Over the summer he learned the triple Axel.

?I was actually landing the triple Axel since 2011, but was very inconsistent and sometimes cheated so we decided not to put it in my programs as it might harm my scores,? the teenager shared.

Martinez? talent is obvious; otherwise he would not have made it from a recreational skater from the Philippines back in 2005 to a Junior Grand Prix contender with a triple Axel seven years later. Especially since he started out in a shopping mall.

When training at home, the skater faces a lot of challenges.

?It?s an Olympic-size rink that we have in Manila, however, it is mainly intended for public use and there is no freestyle session,? Martinez revealed.??The ice is cut (resurfaced) only a maximum of twice a day and is not properly zambonied. It does not have the same smooth surface as in the USA. As a result, it?s very hard to execute multi-rotational jumps.?

?The ice is rough and has too many bumps and too many people,? he continued. ?I need to stay in the rink for six to eight hours, transferring from one rink to another, just to be able to execute my needed elements and to be able to practice.?

Martinez always has to check which of the two mall rinks available have less people before practicing.

?Over the years I suffered many injuries as a result of the poor ice condition like two torn ligaments on my ankle and a torn medial ligament in my knee,? he said. ?Also, the coaches are all recreational coaches only; nobody has been properly?trained for ISU coaching, so the coaching style is very different.?

In order to progress, the young skater had to go abroad. In 2008, he trained in Colorado Springs, USA as he wanted to become a competitive skater.

?I was a Pre-Juvenile skater in 2008 and was training under Janet Champion and other coaches,? said Martinez. ?I landed my first triple jumps, triple toe and?triple Salchow, in June 2008 with their?Russian guest coach Mr.?(Alexander) Zaitzev.?

Martinez was deeply impressed by the level of skating in Colorado Springs.

?I thought I could never be the same as the elite skaters,? he recalled. ?I was just watching then during the elite sessions since their maneuvers looked so impossible to do.??

He did learn his first two triples, nevertheless. Unfortunately, he lost them again when going back to the Philippines as he was not able to receive professional coaching, but this setback didn?t stop the skater.

He went on to compete in novice competitions in 2009 in Europe.

?I took first place in three out of my three competitions in Slovakia, Slovenia and Austria,? noted Martinez. ?After those competitions, I set my eyes on even higher competitions. Even though I was just 13 with just a couple of triple jumps, my mother pushed me to be a Junior skater to have the experience in competing at a higher level.?

Martinez went back to the USA to attend training camps and started to work with Ilia Kulik in December 2010.

?In 2011, we went to the USA again and I had lessons with Ilia for a total of four months,? he confirmed. ?So far this year I have taken lessons with him for three months.?

Martinez also went to California in July and August in 2010 to train with John Saita in Anaheim and also a few times with John Nicks?in Aliso Viejo.

?Mr. Nicks helped me with triple jumps,? offered Martinez. ?The lessons with Mr. Nicks, though, was very limited since his rink in Aliso?Viejo was too far from the house?we were staying at, but Mr. Nicks was very helpful.?

Martinez, then 13 years old, competed in September 2010 at the Golden West Championship in California, landing his triples and finishing third. Shortly thereafter, he debuted at the Junior Grand Prix in Japan, finishing 17th.

?I was so nervous,? he recalled, ?but my mother told me I have nothing to lose, just to gain, from this competition.?

Since then, Martinez has progressed significantly. He was ranked seventh at the Youth Olympic Games in Innsbruck. He considers this event as his highlight of the past season, although he was disappointed with his result.

?I felt so lucky being part of the top 16 young skaters in the world that competed in the Youth Olympic Winter Games,? he said. ?I was very proud of my accomplishment; especially as I came from a?developing-skating country.?Not even our skating?federation could believe that I would make it to the YWOG.??

?My final placement was a complete disappointment though,? Martinez continued. ?I wanted to finish in the top five, but failed.?I was in third place in the short program, but fell to seventh in the free skate.?

?We could not bring my coach, Ilia Kulik, to the competition because we did not have enough money to pay for his fees,? Martinez explained. ?Prior to and during the Youth Olympic Winter Games, there was no financial support from our Philippine?government, so it was just my mother?(Maria Teresa Martinez)?who?coached me?in such a prestigious competition. I was so?saddened about it.?

Martinez added that he received a little support by the Philippine Skating?Federation and Philippine Olympic?Committee only after the competition.

Last March, Martinez went on to finish in a respectable 15th place in his debut at the World Junior Figure Skating Championships.

?I landed six triple jumps,? he pointed out. ?My program component score was low, thus I was in 15th place. In the short program, my technical score was the 8th highest, but due to low component scores, I ranked only 16th in the short program. I realized that I needed a good program and not just land my jumps.?

At Junior Worlds he also realized that he needed a triple Axel and triple-triple combinations to be competitive.

?This meant that I would have to train more and harder,? acknowledged the teen. ?It also entails a lot of sacrifice and hard work on my part, and more expenses for more lessons, not to mention the sacrifice by my family in terms of time and finances.?

Martinez has set high goals for himself this season.

?The goal is to land two triple Axels in the free skate and to learn a quad,? he announced.

?My ultimate dream is to win an Olympic medal for the Philippines,? he added.?

Although figure skating is an unusual sport in his country, the athlete feels that he gets recognition by people at home.

?Whenever they see me on the ice, they are fascinated with the moves, the jumps and spins that I can do,? he said.

In skating, Martinez looks up to Patrick Chan, however, off the ice, his mother is his idol.

?She is a single parent, yet she managed to give us all a good life,? he shared. ?If not for her persistence and dedication, I could have not done what I have accomplished in figure skating in such a very short time.?

In addition to being proud of his mother, Martinez is also proud of his heritage.

?I can say that I am a truly ?home grown talent? and that I can truly represent the Philippines being born and raised there and having started and skated in the Philippines. Not like other team members that come from another country to the Philippines just for a couple of days to compete during our national championships then leave immediately right after the competition.?

In April 2012, the skater suffered a severe injury, tearing ligaments in his knee.

?I was off the ice and could not jump for two months,? Martinez explained. ?I had to re-learn my jumps again, which was so disappointing.?

Martinez? doctor suggested to the skater that he discontinue the sport due to the injuries he had accrued over the years.

?Then I would start?asking?myself?if?what I?m doing is really worth it,? he said. ?I had been out of regular school since 2008, and my time had been eaten up by skating and gym and competitions. I?ve learned many important lessons in life through the sport of figure skating, and one is to never give up.?

When asked what he wants people to say about him at the end of the 2012-13 season, Martinez gives a precise answer: ?That I deserve to represent the Philippines?in the 2014 Olympic Games.

RACINE, Ohio ? Turnovers can prove vital in the outcome of any game.

Such was the case on Friday evening as the Southern Tornadoes (1-1, 1-0 TVC Hocking) held off a rally from the visiting South Gallia Rebels (0-2, 0-1) to score their first win of the 2012 season.

A combined five lost fumbles and three interceptions proved to be the difference maker in the TVC Hocking contest at Roger Lee Adams Memorial Field.

The hosts took the opening kickoff, taking nine plays to put six points on the board. A drive of an opening pass play followed by 10 rushing plays, was capped off with a three yard touchdown run by Tyler Barton. The extra point kick failed, leaving Southern with a 6-0 lead less then five minutes into the game.

After a four and out by the Rebels, Southern took possession at the own 24 yard line. Three plays into the drive, quarterback Tristen Wolfe?s pass was intercepted by the Rebels Seth Carpenter.

South Gallia took advantage of the turnover, marching down field to tie the game. Ethan Spurlock scored on a six yard touchdown run. The two point conversion failed, leaving the score tied at six with 1:44 remaining in the first quarter.

The game would not remain tied for long, as Southern took six plays to put an additional six points on the board. Wolfe hit Trenton Deem for the 54 yard touchdown reception 12 seconds into the second quarter.

South Gallia appeared ready for its second scoring drive, but two consecutive penalties brought back what would have been first down runs. A fumble just past midfield was recovered by Southern?s Paul Ramthun to give Southern the ball.

Neither team would reach the end zone again in the first half, leaving the hosts with a 12-6 lead at the half. Each team moved the ball into the other team?s territory with turnovers late in the have ending drives for both teams.

Jacob White recovered a fumble for the Rebels, while Wolfe intercepted the Ethan Spurlock pass.

Back-to-back series to open the second have resulted in punts, before the Rebels started a long march down field. Eight rushing plays and two pass plays moved the ball from the South Gallia 28 yard line to the six yard line of the Tornadoes. A pass on fourth down from the six yard line by South Gallia starting quarterback Landon Hutchinson was intercepted by Southern?s Tyler O?Conner at the five yard line. O?Conner took the ball 95 yards for the Southern score.

Southern held the 18-6 lead after the failed two point conversion.

The Rebels would fumble on their next two possessions, with Southern?s Wolfe and O?Conner each recovering one fumble. Southern?s first possession of the fourth quarter resulted in a turnover on downs, giving the ball to South Gallia at their own 18 yard line.

Jacob White took the only play of the drive 82 yards, breaking a tackle, for the touchdown. A run by Hutchinson on the two point conversion cut the Southern lead to four points, 18-14.

Four plays later the Tornadoes extended the lead back to double digits with a 48 yard run by Barton.

Defensively, Wolfe, O?Conner and Ramthun each had a fumble recovery for the Tornadoes, with Wolfe and O?Conner each adding an interception.

For the South Gallia defense, Seth Carpenter had an interception, with White and Brandon Campbell each recovering a fumble.

Southern had 13 first downs in the game, to 11 for the Rebels.

The Tornadoes had 300 yards rushing on 46 carries and 61 yards passing. South Gallia had 239 yards rushing on 40 carries, with 99 yards passing.

South Gallia?s White led all ball carriers with 191 (21 carries) including an 82 yard touchdown run. Spurlock added 35 yards, and Hutchinson had 13 yards.

Barton led the Tornadoes with 173 yards on 19 carries. Ryan Billingsley had 74 yards, Deem had 60 yards rushing and 61 yards receiving, and Ramthun added seven yards.

Wolfe had two completions, both to Deem, for 61 yards in the game.

Hutchinson had five completions for 99 yards. Jared Northup (44 yards), Kane Hutchinson (17 yards), Jared Nolan (16 yards), Spurlock (16 yards) and Campbell (six yards) each had one catch for the Rebels.

The win was the first for the Tornadoes against South Gallia as a league opponent. Southern last won in the matchup in 2009 (28-6), with the last victory at home over the Rebels coming in 2004 (12-9).

Southern will travel to league opponent Belpre next week for its first road game of the season. South Gallia will return home to host TVC Hocking foe Trimble. Both games kickoff at 7:30 p.m.

Anderson: 'The Master' inspired by L. Ron Hubbard

VENICE, Italy (AP) ? Director Paul Thomas Anderson acknowledges that Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard was the inspiration for the title character in "The Master," but says the focus of the film is the relationship between a charismatic spiritual leader and his troubled follower, not the movement itself.

The movie, set in the 1950s, stars Philip Seymour Hoffman as a charismatic cult leader who captivates a tortured but sympathetic World War II veteran portrayed by Joaquin Phoenix.

"The narrative is just driven by these two guys, and their love for each other," Anderson told a news conference on Saturday ahead of the highly anticipated film's world premiere in competition at the Venice Film Festival.

Anderson sought to quickly dispel any speculation about the film's influence on his friendship with Tom Cruise, who starred in Anderson's 1999 film "Magnolia" and whose Scientology beliefs are well-documented.

"We are still friends. I showed him the film, and the rest is between us," Anderson said.

Anderson said the fact that Hoffman's character, Lancaster Dodd, was inspired by Hubbard "is not an elephant in the room."

"I really don't know a whole hell of a lot about Scientology, particularly now," he said. "But I do know a lot about the beginning of the movement and it inspired me to use it as a backdrop for these characters."

Phoenix's character, Freddie Quell, is completely unhinged, unable to keep a job, drinking anything that will give him a buzz, including liquid siphoned from a ship's missile, and displaying a wide range of inappropriate behaviors throughout his journey in Dodd's entourage.

Phoenix, appearing in his first movie in several years, himself displayed some mildly erratic behavior during the news conference, fidgeting, lighting up several cigarettes and leaving the dais to go back stage at one point for two minutes.

Hoffman, Phoenix's costar, on one side and Anderson on the other tried to ignore the antics.

Phoenix responded to just one question, about how he approached the character, appeared impervious to the others, and he drew boos from news photographers when he cut his photo call off after just 14 seconds.

"I'll just say, I'll say I don't think, maybe Paul gives, or gave me, the impression I had leeway. But I don't think I ever did," Phoenix said. "I don't know where it comes from and I don't care."

Whether or not the aloof demeanor was sincere or an act was impossible to tell. But Phoenix's appearance in a documentary by his brother-in-law, actor Casey Affleck, premiered in Venice in 2010, about Phoenix's seemingly downward spiral caused many to speculate whether the whole thing was a publicity stunt.

In Phoenix's return to film, the first glimpse of the depth of Quell's troubles comes on R&R in Hawaii in the waning days of the war.

He builds an erotic sand sculpture of a naked woman on a beach crowded with sailors. As they inspect his work, Quell mimics sexual acts with the sand figure that go on for just a few seconds longer than is really funny. That the antics are a cover for a painful loneliness comes through minutes later when he lays down next to a carefully sculpted figure, head nestled near the breasts, offering an unreturned embrace.

After the war, he can't keep a job and kills, or nearly kills, a migrant worker with the poisonous swill he distills. The former sailor seeks drunken refuge on a ship that is carrying Dodd, his family and followers from California to New York via the Panama Canal.

As the two grow closer, Dodd's wife, played by Amy Adams, begins to worry about Quell's true intentions and if his destructive behavior will endanger their movement. But Dodd won't give up his protege.

Hoffman said the two characters are more similar than they appear.

"They're both wild beasts I think ultimately. One of them has just tamed it somehow and he's trying to teach other people how to do that, but ultimately that's where the doubt and the whole reluctant prophet thing comes in," Hoffman said. "Ultimately he wants to be wild like Freddie is, so there's this real attraction there over that. "

Hoffman said he can relate to the desire to act without reservation, asking: "Why can't I just run naked through the streets of Venice?"

"Why can't I just do that and have it be OK, you know. Is it possible that I could just have sex with everyone I see today?' No, it can't. But I wish that was possible, so I think I'm going to go find my master and he'll teach me how not to do that."
