A Union Mine High School teacher and coach is on leave after getting arrested on suspicion of statutory rape, officials said Friday.
David Freeman teaches physical education and computer classes, and also has coached baseball and junior varsity football over the years, Union Mine Principal Tony DeVille told KCRA 3.
Freeman has been at the school since it opened, DeVille added.
He was put on leave Thursday, the principal said. He couldn't comment further due to personnel issues.
The El Dorado Sheriff's Office said Freeman is the man arrested on two felony counts -- one of unlawful sex with a minor and the other for sex acts with a minor.
The 38-year-old was held at the Placerville Jail before posting bail, records show.
Freeman has coached JV football off and on for the past 12 years, and worked as the varsity baseball coach for the last six or seven years, DeVille said.
