A New York-bound Delta Air Lines jet carrying 208 passengers was diverted to Dublin on Monday due to a "possible security situation," the airline said in a press release.
According to the Irish Times, the threat was actually a traveler's plugged-in cellphone discovered in the lavatory of the 767-300.
The flight was en route from Istanbul, and?reportedly taken to a remote area of the airport and boarded by police. Authorities "spoke to a passenger who came forward after an announcement was made about the reason for their presence on board," the paper reported.
Delta said Dublin authorities "conducted an investigation and cleared the aircraft and passengers to continue."
Flight 73 departed Istanbul's Ataturk airport at 12:13 local time and was scheduled to arrive at JFK at 4:50 p.m. ET.
Earlier Monday, 15 passengers aboard a Virgin Atlantic jet suffered minor injuries when it made an emergency landing at London's Gatwick Airport.
Gatwick was temporarily closed after the London-to-Orlando flight returned to Gatwick about two hours after takeoff because of a "technical problem" on board the aircraft, officials said.
